Paradise?

It is said that Mohammed, upon arriving on a mountainside just above Damascus, refused to visit the city. Why? Because, he said, "paradise can only be entered once, and that is when you die".

Well, I am not Mohammed and I am certainly not in a position to say what paradise is like. But, without making any kind of ranking between Syria and Iran or Turkey, I can already say that Damascus is my favourite city on this trip so far. I like it really, really much. So much as to feel that this city is worthy a month of my life.

Said and done, a couple of days ago I moved into an apartment in the middle of the old town of Damascus. I have also found an iraqi guy, Suleyman, a refugee from Bagdad, (one of the 1,5 million iraqi refugees only in Syria...) who will act as my personal arabic teacher for some time.
Well, we'll see how serious the arabic-studies turns out to be. But at least I know now where to spend Christmas. And if there's anyone without plans for the New Years Eve, then you're more than welcome to my home in Damascus! =)
